This two DVD set has been produced in the Kimberley Region of Australia to assist Aboriginal families prepare for the birth of a baby. It follows the experiences of a local Aboriginal mother, Cissy, as she progresses through the different stages of her pregnancy, showing the lifestyle choices she has to make to keep herself and her baby healthy. Through Cissy's eyes, Aboriginal women can familiarise themselves with the health system, feel confident and comfortable with the midwives and obstetricians and learn about the importance of good diet and exercise.

This program looks at pre and post natal care provided by midwives and doctors including important checks such as blood tests, ultrasounds and physiotherapy treatments. A tour of the Kununurra birth suite is shown (typical of many rural hospitals), and there is discussion of positions for birth, labour medications and other self help techniques.  Cissy's labour and  the birth of her 5th baby is shown.

Post natal topics include the importance of breastfeeding, post natal checks for the mother and newborn tests and procedures.

It also includes birth stories from other Aboriginal mothers and fathers.

This DVD offers useful information for indigenous women that is often very hard to find. It would be suitable for clinics, private screenings and parenting preparation groups.
