| Water labour, water birth Workshop |
 |
Labouring women find immersion in warm water very effective for easing labour pain and it is a simple and effective
alternative to drugs, which can affect the health and well being of both mother and baby. Managing labour and birth in a
bath, tub or shower is a basic skill for today's midwives. This workshop will enable all midwives to expand or update
their skills in this area, as it focuses on the:
- practicalities of facilitating labour and birth in warm water
- physiological effects of water immersion on mother and baby
- research evidence that supports this midwifery practice
- occupational health and safety issues for hospital staff
- development of policies and protocols to underpin the provision of this service
Participants will each receive a pack containing references, sample policy documents and other relevant materials.
Combine this workshop with the Active Birth program on April 7 and 8 at the same venue for the best all-round midwifery
skills training.
