This two-day program offers practical, experiential training in skills central to parent education. Everyone who is
involved in the education of expectant parents, including midwives, childbirth educators, physiotherapists and community
health workers will benefit from learning more about good communication, adult education, group skills and program design.
An exciting, compact basic educational package, for new and experienced educators alike.
Day One
- What will we teach? Designing innovative programs that can be adapted for different groups and different settings.
- Making classes interesting and stimulating, through teaching techniques that appeal to different adult learning
styles.
- Working with groups, involving partners, encouraging participation.
Day Two
- New ways of teaching about pain in labour, self-help, parenting and normal birth physiology.
- Motivating clients to view birth positively, and to enable them to gain confidence in their own abilities.
- Empowering clients to make decisions and evaluate their options — helping them to get what they need and want from
the birth experience.
- Using research to strengthen your teaching and instigate change in hospital practice and protocols.
