This film from the UK follows eight women giving birth in a variety of circumstances: natural birth at home and in hospital, caesarean, twin and water birth. Each birth is beautifully filmed by this award winning photographer, to show each mother triumphing in her own way as she gives birth. This is the film we have been waiting for - a way to show the uniqueness of birth, which although quite explicit, demonstrates women retaining their autonomy and dignity. The only disappointment is that none are shown giving birth in vertical positions. The video's construction allows it to be used as a whole or in segments, and this adds to its usefulness in pre-natal class programs. Highly praised by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Royal College of Midwives, it was a Gold Award winner at the 1993 International TV/Film festival in New York.
