Re-accreditation as a Registered Training Organisation

It’s over! The audit for our re-registration as a Registered Training Organisation has been completed, and apart from one or two very minor matters, we were able to provide the evidence for compliance for every Standard or the Australian Quality Training Framework.

It is a very comprehensive and thorough process. Every aspect of the business is scrutinised by the on-site auditor, from the staffing, accounting, employment, professional and record keeping angles - no stones are left unturned. We have to prove that not only are we an ethical and well managed organisation but also that we have the capacity to underpin the Courses we offer with appropriate staff training, record keeping, student services and accountability. All student records have to be kept for 30 years, safe from fire, flood and other hazards. Policies have to be in place for everything we do, and a myriad of regulations have to be acknowledged and incorporated into our practice. It’s a rigorous process but one worth undertaking, as it really sharpens our practice and makes sure that we are complying in ways that can only strengthen our business and prove our commitment in this field.

Once again, our Course Co-ordinator, Cassandra McBurnie, led the charge on this project: preparing the documentation, participating in the audit process and providing the necessary back-up and follow through. The auditor was very impressed by her record keeping and organisational attention to detail - traits that we really appreciate around here. I have complete confidence that Cassandra can locate any record, detail, student note or file she is asked to produce - what an asset she is to our organisation!

Once the report is submitted by the auditor to the Vocational Education and Training Assessment Board and they reply, we will have 21 days to provide the three or four sheets of paper that will complete our compliance and we will then receive our registration for another five years. Phew!!!
