The safety of drugs for labour

Today I have been reviewing resources for the article on drugs for pain in labour that I am preparing for the Essential Parent pages of this web site. It is really quite frightening to think about how little we know of the effects these drugs have on the unborn child - very little research has been done on this topic. This lack of evidence is often used as the reason caregivers say things like "epidurals are safe" when in fact they are not. Just because there is no research does not mean there is no problem, it just means there is no research.
